Brocken Fushe.

One of the spokes is cracked all the way through on a 15" Fushe wheel.
Can it be welded ?
Thanks Steve

One of my fuchs was cracked about 3/4's thru the spoke and I had it welded by my brother in law who builds high dollar alum boats. It was a bit of work grinding down the weld to make that spoke look exactly the same as the others.I would recomend a high speed air die grinder and a assortment of paper grinding discs and scotchbrite pads from course to fine.I gave it a shot with a rattle can and it looks good as new. Good luck

SLR,

Fuch's wheels are EXTREMELY tough and I have never seen a cracked one. Seen lots of them that were bent like a pretzel after an accident but still one piece and even holding air. First question is, are you positive that its a real Fuch and not a replica?

Second question is what in the world has happened to the wheel to stress it to this point and are you sure you want to trust your life to this wheel anymore??? If its a actual defective wheel that has not been in an accident, please take it to the dealer and get them to send it back for testing. Fuchs would probably give you a new one.

My bet is that sometime in a past life the car or wheel (on another car) was in a massive accident or shunt. Additionally, if you do have it welded, take it to a good shop and have it crack checked to confirm that there are no other areas that are cracked and just not showing yet.

I have seen a real 8x15 Fuchs develop a crack after being used on the rear of a coil-over 911 for thousands track days miles. So I think it is possible to get a cracked Fuchs without a major hit. I think it is a good idea to retire the wheel rather than weld it however, if any track days are contemplated.

I had a cracked Fuchs that had been used only on a street car, but it had been chromed by the previous owner and I understand that can make the wheel brittle.

I think it is odd for a Fuch to develop a crack, and I'd agree with Randy again. I wouldn't trust a cracked Fuch, even one that has been welded. Besides the question weld difficulty and quality, one has to wonder what (if a Fuch has developed a crack) is wrong.

When budgeting for wheels or tires, one should factor in how much the lives of those riding on them is worth. Count me among those who would junk the wheel...they make good hose hangers, I understand...

Paul,

A wheel like this makes a very nice table, put some glass on top and you get to enjoy the wheel in a safe manner for years!

brocken fuchs

Well sorry about the misspelling on the wheel ( Fuchs) !
thank you all for the input and I will replace the wheel. I have the opportunity to buy a set of 16” wheels and I think that's what I will do.
Thanks Steve
