Question about early bumpers and sideview mirror supports
I am installing my sideview mirros on my '72 911 and iI don't like the way the door slightly flexes around the base. Did Porsche make metal plates to put on the inside of the door to help better support the door mirrors? If so, where do I get them?
Also, how can I tell the difference between post '68 and pre '68 rear bumpers? Thanks, Jon |
Jon
On the rear bumpers-- if you have a SWB and a LWB bumper to compare, the LWB bumper is shorter due to the extension of the wheelbase. If you don't have one of each to compare, the easy way to distinguish is to look at the leading edge, directly opposite the rear tire. The leading edge of the SWB rear bumper is rolled inward and then capped with a stainless trim piece. The leading edge LWB version is cut off flush and covered with an aluminum trim piece. On the door mirror-- I do not recall any support plate, and see none listed in the 72-73 parts manual. Good luck. |
mirror support
I have P part number for mirror support, without they will pull and distort door if you use "flag" style mirrors. email me and I will look for part numbers. All the best

The reason I asked is I bought two bumpers that were modified for Carrera flares. I was looking at the insides and the two that were sent look slightly different in design than my original '72's. I did test fit them and they seem to fit. Would the SWB bumpers fit on a LWB car or did Porsche modify the design through the years.
