Targa coupe hybrid

Hi all,

Quick about me. I have a Continental Orange 1978 SC Targa (my first Porsche) for three years now and am in the process of a complete restoration with an all steel backdate. I finally thought of something I couldn't find with the search option. Has anyone seen a Targa that had the rear windows and roof of a coupe welded in place of the Targa window? I've seen a lot of full roofs welded on in place of the cut off bar. If you retained the front of the bar you could use it to attach the factory top and seal the side windows. This would be for aesthetic only since most Targa haters seem to dislike the window and bar. With a painted fiberglass top it would look a lot like a coupe. Just thinking out loud as I look at my body on the rotisserie.

Jamie

I'm quite happy with my '78 Targa but have enquired at a body shop about converting my Carrera to T-TOP.

I'm happy too. It was a random thought. I alwas wondered why they made the rear window so different.

Porsche used to offer a removable hardtop for cabriolets, which made them look very coupe-like when installed, and I know someone here has made a fiberglass version. They don't have the exact roofline of a coupe, but close.

I'm thinking the "roll bar" with the one-piece glass behind it was just an evolution from the early soft rear window targa, retaining something of the look of the open top with roll bar. There should be a 912 targa picture here: 1967-Porsche 912 Soft Window Targa

Crappy photoshop of what I was thinking. Depending on how much bar you left you might see some through the rear side windows.
