3.6L O2 Sensor - on or off?
I see that some people disconnect the O2 sensor on their engines, even the 3.6Ls - why? What are the benefits/drawbacks?
FWIW, mine is connected. |
I don`t know why anyone woukd unhook it. Mine is also hooked up. W/O your system would go into and open loop with a default setting at idle and part load. At WOT it dumps so much fuel that the O2 sensor is not a factor.

The O2 sensor on my 3.2 Carrera (turbo) is also disconnected.
This makes the A/F ratio richer as the O2 sensor (when connected) forces the Motronics to run in the 13.x:1 A/F range. A bit too lean for a turbo application. Hope that helps FWIW... |
If you must disconnect it for some reason, why not just connect a switch in the sensor signal wire so you can control when it operates? During part throttle operation a rich mixture can potentially dilute the oiling system, foul the plugs and decrease fuel mileage.
