its pretty tight space back there on each side. the driver side has a washer bottle that is in the way. the passenger side might have an oil cooler fitted.
Jack the car up, remove the wheels. If you remove the front bumper bar and valence, you might be able to get your hands in there to place the reinforcement plates and fasteners. Otherwise you will have to remove the bottle and oil cooler (if fitted) I regret not having bought the car pictured. euro 2.7 mfi 74 Carrera (sniff sniff)

Can you still open the hood with the lights in the fender location without moving or removing them?
If you are just going for best lighting options and not a specific look, change the fogs to cornering lights and a couple of Super Oscars on top of the bumper towards the centerline of the car with relays and good wiring. If you are going for the rally look, get a fiberglass hood and mount 4 Oscars in it above the height of the headlamps. If you are going to cut and open up your fenders, ensure that you water and rust proof prior to bolting things back up.

When positioned properly these allow the hood to operate without fear of interference.
Mounting anything on the hood will increase the number of bumps on the back of your head ;-) good tip on the waterproofing
