Clutch cable adjustment

OK, I've got my rebuilt pedal box back in and everything hooked back up. I think I don't have the clevis pin screwed back onto the clutch cable the right distance. Before this rebuild the clutch would engage a couple inches off the floor. But now I have to let the clutch out about a third of the way up before it engages. I liked it a lot better when it engagd just off the floor. Does anyone know which way I should adjust? Should the thread on the clutch cable extend further into the clevis or viceversa? Thanks, an accurate answer will save me alot of time. How far do you gus have to let up on the clutch pedal before your car engages?

I have the exact same issue ever since I put in a new cable and helper spring. I tried to loosen my clutch cable up as far as it would go without it just falling off the bottom of the transmission, but it still release near the top. Everrything is within the specs. outlined in Waynes' book.

on cars with the two arms and the bolt between them, set that clearance first, and then adjust the cable sheath nuts on the trans bracket until you get the pedal where you like it. on cars with just one arm under the bellhousing, just adjust the cable nuts.

my 76 clutch releases too late also, pedal has to be almost all the way out. I have loosened the cable as much as I can and it makes no difference, it doesn't seem that there is much to adjust on mine, just where the cable attaches to the clutch lever. As far as I know this is the only adjustment my car has. Just my 2 cents

i've never seen a clutch yet where loosening or tightening the cable doesn't reposition the pedal.

Thanks for the tips guys. But I should of put the wooden floorboard back in and adjusted the clutch pedal stop before posting. After I did that the clutch engages exactly where it was before I removed the pedal box......about 2" off the floor.
It's perfect now and best of all it has never shifted as smoothly. Going from 1st to 2nd is very smooth. Upshifting or downshifting in any gear is very good as well. Thanks again.
