Saw this in traffic on the way home tonight
Not sure if it was a repro, suspect it was, it sounded really good, like maybe a modded six with glass packs, something like that. I haven't heard a four cam in a while, but I think I'd remember the sound:-)

That was what I thought. I tried to get video with sound, but to get next to him I was in a left turn lane, he was going right. Oh well.

Very cool Repro or not, I think its a Repro though. Im looking at the release article from R&T Feb '64 (I have it framed above my desk) they did a write up on the 904. There are some very different things I see compared to the pics in the article but many of these cars I'm sure were built in all sorts of ways. Just to point out some things I see, The original car had side view mirrors mounted on the wheel wells not the door, single out exhaust, one piece windows, and I think smaller wheels. But its cool none the less, I know I would take one if I could.
Regards Dave

Probably my all time favorite car, if I had to pick one. and a repro in this case makes sense - can't imagine it'd be very fun to drive a million dollar car around in rush hour traffic. On second thought...
Nice catch Dave on the details. Here's one in the Porsche Museum, for comparison. I think the rear end is a bit different - a bit of a lip on the original - and the rear window on the original looks larger. ![]() |

There were quite a few differences between the original 4-cam 4-cylinder cars & the later 6-cylinder cars but many have been modified/updated over the years - for instance the museum car shown is an earlier 4-cylinder model with later rear bodywork (with the larger 'elephant ears' air intakes).
The car shown in the original post looks like a Beck replica. Here's my Martin & Walker 904 replica (not completely finished): ![]()

Easily the sexiest Porsche ever built. Repro or not, I would take either.

This was taken last July @ NHIS. The owner said it had a 2.8L, 1800lbs.

Where: Santa Barbara, CA
I thought the rear didn't look quite right, I didn't see the front. I was turning right out of a parking lot and I saw it go by to the left, I went left. I'd take it whatever it was. |

It's most likely a replica. There were so many variations (4, 6, and 8 cylinders), I don't know if they were ever offered with the wide rear body work. Although, I give the owner credit for running it with proper, widened steel wheels.

Spotted on The corner of "Calle Real and Replicar"! Some of those replicas are very well done and quite pricey, nice.

Andyjboy, I like that Alfa you got tucked behind your 904. Giulietta or Giulia Sprint Veloce, very nice cars. Great stable.

Here's one at the 2010 Parade in Chicago. The owner (shown with Peter Porsche here) drove it from Detroit.
