87-89 G50 floor pan on an 83?

Hey,

I have an 83 911SC and I'm getting my torsion tube swapped to a 930 g50 tube. I'm putting an 89 G50/50 into the car. I was looking at sheet metal and was wondering if I could use the G50 floor pan and G50 rear seat casings instead of the SC sheet metal? That way I wouldn't need to do any other body mods for the G50/50 fitment, hopefully! lol The floor pan has a defined square indentation and the seats casings have a larger tunnel. I guess what I'm really asking, is this an easy fit or will there need to be a lot of hammering? I'll add photos below.

Thanks for any info!

It seem like it should fit.

Or you can do what most body shops do and section out what parts you need to fit. Don't try to replace the whole panel, just use what you need from the new one.

Keep in mind that the G50-50 is approximately 25 mm (1inch) longer than a G50 so it’s not going to bolt right up like you think, it’s going to take some massaging of the trans cross member and tweaking of the rear crossbar. All 78-89 930’s the engine mounts are set back approximately 25 mm further than SC’s and Carreras.

The turbo G50 uses a 9" CWP and N/A uses 7.5", so the case is different; I'd SWAG the /50 is 228.6mm - 190.5mm == 38.1mm longer...

Turbo 1st mainshaft is correspondingly longer internally (eg different bearing locations) - so turbo (/50, /52) and the N/A 1st mainshafts don't interchange. At least, not trivially (you can do anything with enough money).

IMHO, 3.5 N/A 1st ratio not useful in a turbo anyway. G50/02 (Swiss market) 1st mainshaft will yield a 3.154 1st ratio (as per turbo, 993 RS/RSR) for N/A G50 5 speed boxes.

Guys, he is putting an 89 turbo G50 torsion tube in (no small task) so he will have correct mounting for the 50/50. Be certain that you have it all aligned perfectly.

I dont think a new floor is necessary but don’t see why one could not add it.

You should cut the seat pans a bit anyway in order to do a full perimeter weld of the new torsion tube so…
