Replacing bad starter, only 1 yellow wire connected?

My starter is dying on my 86 Carrera so I was following this tech article about replacing it: Pelican Technical Article: 911 Starter Installation.

And it says I should have 2 yellow wires connected to the spade terminals: "The larger (2.5mm) yellow wire carries the control signal from the ignition switch. The smaller yellow wire (.5mm, may also have a colored stripe) activates the cold-start injector when the starter is engaged."

The bad starter solenoid does have a bottom terminal but there was nothing connected to it and I only have 1 yellow wire that was connected to the top spade terminal. Is this to be expected? The tech article was written for an SC, maybe something changed by '86? Here's all I see there after removing the starter

I think the solenoid is bad because cranking voltage to the solenoid output terminal was a couple volts low and sometimes the car just won't even try to crank. Other times it'll start right up, seems to be getting worse though.

I already ordered the high torque starter from our host and should have it in a couple days but it didn't say anything about them accepting a core charge for returning the old starter, can I return it to Pelican for some money? I'd hate to throw it in the garbage if it can be rebuilt...

Your car doesn't happen to have fuel injection does it?
No CSV after CIS, no yellow wire needed.
That starter has a label saying remanufactured, Send it in for re-remanufacturing? :)

Yes and Yes - CIS has a cold-start valve (CSV). Motronic (84-on) doesn't.

Ah. I read CSV and thought ICV. Thanks.
