Am I missing something? Heat backdate.
I have read a bunch of threads about backdating the heat on my 82 SC.
Am I missing something... All that is needed are the pieces on the left and right of the fan and then run the heater hoses through the same holes down to the heat exchangers? What are the parts on the side of the fan called so I can buy them. Thanks guys and sorry if this has been covered a 100 times. |

Left Side Heater Duct, 911 (1965-74) (1975-89 for backdated heater) NOTE: May need to be tapped with hammer near mounting screws to achieve optimal fit. [More Info] $94.95 911-106-322-01-PH Right Side Heater Duct, 911 (1965-74) (1975-89 for backdated heater) NOTE: Will require modification for cars with air conditioning [More Info] $89.95 those are the 2 parts needed along with the hoses. some fitting around the distributor and if you keep the A/C, a little more fitting. SSI heat exchangers would be a good addition, they really pump out the heat. |
Heat Ducts
You need two of them, one left and one right Pelican Parts - Product Information: 930-106-321-01-PH Pelican Parts - Product Information: 911-106-322-01-PH and the hoses, SCAT makes some nice aircraft quality check the classified ads, they show up from time to time |
Heater ducts. This page has them:
Porsche 911 & Carrera Heating & Ventilation - Page 2 There are tech articles on doing it as well. Aircraft spruce has the 2-1/2" sceet or scat hose you'll want as well. |
Thanks guys. I do have SSI's so thats a plus I guess.
|
You may also want to buy the square piece of engine tin through which the heater duct hose passes on the driver's side. On your SC this will have no hole for the hose.

This thread deals with the other issues that you rarely see discussed in heater backdate threads.

I have all of those parts aside from the vent hose left over from my build. PM me if you want them.

Can I not reuse the hot air duct I have now?

Thanks James, Just waiting to find a pair of used fan ducts now. Anybody?
|
Be sure to buy hose that is very flexible for the heat exchanger to duct connections.
I used some of the original style aluminum hose for my backdate and it was difficult to make the bends. I believe the orange Scat hose works best. |
I was looking for new hose but I really don't want orange. I would prefer red or deep black. But didnt see any.
|
Heres a black one. Pelican Parts - Product Information: 901-211-195-01-M260
Here's the page. Porsche 911 & Carrera Heating & Ventilation - Page 1 Dont know why it says left side only. I have them on both sides. |
Dipso, I have some of that already that im going to try to use. The one that goes all the way across the engine to the blower I will just cut and attach to the right side. Should be pretty easy.
|
I originally used the hose posted above for my backdate. Doesn't shape very well for the bends you'll need on the left side. It lasted a year. You can't remove it without wrecking it due to the aluminum liner. I now have the orange stuff.
|
I also tried to reuse the hose that ran the width of my engine compartment. It tough to cut cleanly to length, and then even harder to get bent right to connect at the heat exchanger. I ended up getting the orange hose from Scat. They might have black hose. Give them a look.

But you can ignore all of this if a PO tossed the adapters and used 60mm hose everywhere. |
Does anyone know the part number or name of the engine tin that the hose goes through on the driver side?
