RSR - Carrera script or 'Porsche' Side Script?

I have seen both the Carrera script and the Porsche side decal on various 73 RSR creations... where they both an option on these cars then?
Thanks

No - the RSR and IROC's had the P O R S C H E script

only the Carreras had the Carrera Script.

Mine is not original - so I didn't worry about the Carrera vs Porsche script - I liked the look of the Carrera Script better

I lived in Jacksonville in the '70's and was fortunate to see several RSR's that were delivered through Brumos Porsche. The 1973 and 1974 RSR's that I saw had Carrera stripes. I don't recall seeing a '75 RSR "as delivered".

Most race teams removed the Carrera graphics before the cars hit the track.

I didn't see these in person but the pictures I've seen of the IROC cars (which were specially prepared RS 3.0's) show PORSCHE stripes on the sides.

It does seem there are are both, could one be a euro vs US version or the Iroc models? Just curious

here is an original RSR Iroc that shows the porsche on side Porsche Claims 4 of the Top 10 Mecum Auction Results in Monterey, Including a New World Record! | @FlatSixes - the blog about Porsche ( which leads me to another question, I though 73 was the only year? and another of a model of George Follmers RSR http://www.racingmodels.com/porsche-911-carrera-rsr-george-follmer-1st-iroc-1973-riverside-143-7724-p.asp

Here is an original 1974 RSR IROC.

If you end up making a decal set with all four "Porsche" decals that is any where close to the quality of the set you made for my 1965 Daytona Coupe, count me in!

The origin of the PORSCHE side script dates to La Mans and the 908. This was a marketing point as the prototype cars were hard to distinguish from one another. It was then used on rally and sport purpose 911's. Think 911R, 911TR, 911ST. The development of the Carrera script coincided with the Carrera cars in 1972 and 1973. There were a number of versions prior to the final script on the 1973 production RS.
The RSR also used this script. Teams liveried their cars as desired so anything could have been placed on them. To be chronologically correct the Carrera script should not be used on any car prior to 1973, ok late '72.
In the end it is your car, use what you like.

So many of our older cars are creative fantasies in so many ways (performance bits, bodywork, etc.), I wonder why we obsess over authenticity when it comes to graphics.

If I were to add graphics to my car, and I might, I would invent my own design, but I would have a pro produce the actual vinyl, or similar. Why not? We are free to do whatever we want with our cars. That said, I am capable as a designer, while others may be challenged to do such things.

Nevertheless, be willing to follow your wonderful whims = my 2 cents. You could start a trend.

You may be looking at five different models

72 RS Carrera 2.7 (medium body) - Carrera
73 RSR (wide body) - Carerra

early 74 IROC (Wide body smooth 73 RSR style rear fenders but bigger bumpers) - Porsche

Later 74 RSR (Wide body vented rear fenders)? Porsche???
74 Cararra 3.0 (Medium body - the continuation of the RS 2.7?) - Carerra
