CIS "compatibility"... challenge
 

I'm trying to swap out my 2.7 CIS that's on my 3.0 ltr and go with a 3.0 CIS (have several parts for the '78 - '79 series available to me.. but, they're not mine - yet).

Does anyone know how "compatible" a FUEL DISTRIBUTOR for the '80 - '83 series is vs. one for the '78 - '79 series? I understand that the runners were reduced for the later series from about 39mm down to about 34mm - but, I haven't got a clue about how much metered fuel gets distributed.

Is it something worth trying or will I be in the same boat I'm in now with running too lean. Anyone tried a Mercedes or Audi fuel distributor? Any alternatives (centered around a '78 - '79 application)?

This is for a Euro 3.0 (930/02 turbo case), but I had some used SC pistons and cylinders (small compression bump to 9.3?) installed for a recent refresher. It came with the 2.7 induction (I believe through a fire rehab.) and that's not working for me now.

Well here is the thing, 80-83 US systems have a different fuel distributor than ROW to accommodate the connections for the frequency valves. And the 80' well it's nothing like the 82-83.

So the short of it is you need a matching system from WUR, to AAR and fuel distributor, and matching "computer" for the respective year.

If a completely rebuilt CIS system from a 83,000 mile ROW '78 3.0 930/03 with all new injectors, fuel lines, gaskets etc etc with a stainless airbox, taken off my car that was running great for an EFI swap 2 months ago, would work for your engine, I have one I might be talked out of. :)
Should be just plug and play for your car.

Bitz kit is about $2200 for the parts if all new. I've seen them ready to bolt in for about $2000 used in the classifieds. Mileage, power and tuning are the benefits.
My " Finally back in the game" thread describes it fairly well around page 6 or 7.
Do a search for a thread on the Bitz kit development started by the developer Tony Bizantis.
It is an older system with some limitations, but it works well.

Balletta has one for sale for a good price in the classifieds.
