My 78 911 Sc Crank case strainer leaks oil . Even when my mechanic replace the gasket. What could be the problem.

Perhaps he is only using one gasket..... there should be two gaskets, one between the cover and strainer, the other between the strainer and block. Proper torque is important as well as complete cleanliness of the surfaces.

I doubled my bets by squirting just a mist of high tack (aerosol) on the gaskets, gave them a few seconds to flash before I installed.

The cover should be torqued like a tire also, torqueing bolts in a opposite pattern, don't just start and go clock wise around.

hope this helps, I hate oil leaks.

Most likely the sump cover is 'dented' around the eight stud locations ... from overtightening the nuts!

Here is a discussions of the fix:

Help!, I am under car..stripped sump stud

Cool

I have took a look at it and it appears to be dented in where the nuts tighten up.
Thanks again.

warren you definitely nailed my problem right off the bat! those little holes were warped juuuust a little bit. Instead of doing all that fixin on the plate I just went to Stoddard's (yes I checked pelican, they didnt have it) and got a plain old sump plate w/oil drain for $8.50! Unbelievable difference. I couldn't get my dumb torque wrench to work either so I hand tightened and then 1/2 turn more with wratchet. fanatastic.
