Stain on Steering wheel?

Hello,

I seem to have a stain on the plastic center piece of my steering wheel. It was there when I purchased the car. I have tried cleaning it, tried applying armour all type product, with no luck. Any suggestions appreciated.

I wonder if it can be dyed? If you can use RIT for the red heatiing vent switches, I don't know why you couldn't use black on the steering wheel. Worst case...you buy a Momo wheel.

try a good vinyl cleaner first (Meguairs has a few, incl an HD one in the tan bottles/pro line) then do Back to Black or a vinyl paint, or repl. the steering wheel with a 930S type

also see if you can find any blood test data on the PO...

Amazing! I have nearly the same thing on mine!

I thought that the PO had sprayed something that didn't react well. As of late, I have been considering doing this:

This is what some plastics look like when a strong volatile solvent is sprayed on them. The solvent evaporates from the sides in, all the while leaching placticizer and surface-finish materials from center areas to the fringes of the solvent "puddle".

Covering up the "stain" with a dye is probably the best choice. A nice, flexible dye would be the best choice. You may want to take the wheel apart and do the wheel's column cover at the same time so that two plastic parts have the same shade.

Oh, my eyes.

BUT, the results look pretty good, even if the color choice was not to my liking. I would say that something in a nice satin black for our three-spoke wheels might be a good choice.

This may be a good opportunity to contact Paul Champagne, see what it would cost to cover the horn pad in leather??

Ha! I should have warned/disclaimed that in advance. Personally, I can't stand the color either...to "fast and furious" for me. In fact, the bright color draws attention ( in my opinion ) to the imperfections in the finish. A dark color, like our wheels, might do very well with this.

This may be a bad idea...what about plasti-dip? Too hardcore or cheesy?

I've used SEM Trim Black 39143 on plastic items. Recently did a color change on some road bike shoes.....looks great, can't scratch them with a finger nail. Silver to black.

Versus this....
