HI!
I have a '74 911 2.7 with the original stock muffler. Sounds good and provides more low-end torque than my Bursh sport muffler. The Bursh is fun, but very loud and high-pitched. Also, as indicated it loses some low-end power over the stock muffler. My question. Has anyone ever cut the original Bursch muffler off of the assembly and attached a different muffler? You know, like a Magnaflow or Flowmaster or even a CherryBomb in the correct size and shape? I'm looking for better overall performance than the stock or Bursch without the ear-splitting noise from the Bursch. I want something with a deep and smooth exhaust note, but free flowing , without the loss of any of the low-end torque. It looks like it would be pretty easy to cut and reattach something different. I'm just wondering if it is worthwhile. I know, there are a lot of of mufflers for 911's out there already, but I really don't like most of what is available, and the ones I like are a bit expensive. Any thoughts on this? Thanks. |

a previous owner installed a big stainless Flow-Master on this one. VERY free flowing, with the resultant loss of mid-range torque, but wicked sound.

Here are before and after pictures of a Bursch 1 in/ 1 out. I replaced the stock Dynomax 17733 with a Magnaflow 11226. Bought the Bursch from a fellow Pelican, sandblasted, painted with Rustoleum BBQ paint (1200 degrees) and ground off the welds to the old muffler. Will post the sound clip in the Ultimate Exhaust thread if I ever figure out how. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/Porsche-911-technical-forum/332660-ultimate-exhaust-sound-clip-thread.html?highlight=ultimate+exhaust
