Satellite Radio Antenna
So this should be pretty simple: Where did you mount your antenna? I was planning on mounting the antenna on the corner of the dash, inside the car. I read in install instructions that this was a big no no. If you have done this, your feedback would be appreciated.

you will be fine there. you can mount it anywhere you like so long as the top has a clear path to the sky (it can go through glass).

Mines between the wipers dead center. Since I have a Targa most of the good places are unavailable.

86 coupe. I have mine on the rear deck centered at the back edge. Basically wedged gently between the glass and trim panel. I have tinted windows and I don't think anyone's ever noticed it's there. I've never had any issues with reception in this location.
When I drove my car home cross country I took my XM set up with me. I just put the antenna receiver on the dash. I had some issues with reception with it in the corner and had to set it centered on the dash. -J |

I have tried several ways on my cab:
Interior 1. Top up-On back deck-dropped signal occasionally 2. No where on front dashboard worked without frequent dropped signal Exterior 1. Velcroed to the top of the third brake light that is mounted on top of the Carrera spoiler-worked perfectly with no dropped signal 2. Magnetically mounted at the corner of the windshield on the body just forward of the passenger door-no dropped signal but the mag mount scratched the paint a little so I removed it and went with the third brake light mount described below. Just got a new XM module for my new Pioneer radio and the antenna is much smaller than my Sirius antenna from a few years ago and going to mount it dead center on the body ahead of the windshield behind the frunk with the wire feeding into the fresh air fan vent screen. Should work perfectly. |

Mine is outside, magnetically mounted next to the wipers, with the cord running right into the front trunk. I found the outside location to have better reception than inside. Inside mount was acceptable, but not on country roads with lots of trees. Now outside, I still have dropouts, but they are just occasional.
It will depend on the antenna, some will have better spec's than others -- in my case I'm using an XM antenna that's like 12 years old. Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 347k miles |

Mine's between the wipers also. Its unobtrusive and works well. You can leave them inside and it would work nearly as well but there is no place it'll mag to. Cleaner look outside to my mind.
