1975 porsche 911s anniversary edition

so I am back after a year or so. posted a few questions a bout the silver 911s that has sat for so many years. I love this car. and I bought it tonight.. turns out it has not been started in 9 years. parked in a warm garage for years. battery unhooked.. etc. I am trying to figure out the best possible way to get this thing back on the road again. I kn ow I need to drop the fuel tank... and work on the fuel lines. then the injection system? should I find a reputable place here locally or should I try this myself..

any help would be very much appreciated

There are lots of good articles in here on how to start a car that has not been running for a long time--you are on the right track with the fuel system.
I restored a 75 anniversary edition much like yours--had not been run in years. I had to clean the fuel injection system, but it actually was in good condition. I just replaced all the wear items like fuel injector O rings, fuel filter, etc. My fuel pump was also bad. I had the fuel tank cleaned out, and sealed. It had about a gallon of rust powder in it. I replaced the strainer, and seals on the tank also.
I also ended up rebuilding the engine, but that is a different story. With SSI heat exchangers, it is a wonderful running little car, and great fun to drive.

Search for posts by the Jedi Master Grady Clay. He has given a lot of good advice over the years on how to get a 911 that has been sitting out on the road again.

I'll chime in with my limited knowledge that you damn well better make sure you can stop it once you get it started. In other words, pay close attention to ensuring your brakes work as designed!

Good luck!

I will do some searches. I am all ears I do remember you guys talking about the mechanical fuel pump getting clogged up. oh well. I will do some more reading and go from there. I get the car here in a day or so. I am not going to just try to fire it up.

Please post pics. I have a '75 911S Silver Anniversary that I bought in June that had been sitting for more than 19 years under a tree in Pomona, California area that had an engine rebuild/new clutch before being parked.

1) Rust "Powder" in the tank: cbush was right. Mine had 6 gallons of rust powder in the tank - the tank was/is worthless. Got a new tank from Pelican. Solved the problem with the tank.

2) Entire CIS was a mess due to this bad rust gas. Owner decided to take it upon himself to do an in-car fuel distributor rebuild and pulled it off and apart. It was smoked anyway. He would get it to fire up by pouring gas down the pop-off valve.

3) Bad Fuel Distributor : Needed Rebuild

4) Bad Accumulator : New one

5) Injectors Smoked : From rust gas - all new ones

6) New Fuel Pump : Ruined from rust powder gas

Pretty much I am doing the entire CIS system from the ground up, probably with all new lines, etc as well. If he didn't try to start it with 19-year-old gas in it some parts might have been savable, but budget for $1K for a new tank, accumulator, injectors, fuel distributor rebuild, and more if you add lines, etc. Replacing all the 35-year-old CIS components adds up very quickly - I have two used WURS on the backburner as well.

I am hoping that being very diligent with cleanliness and new parts will make it a reliable car. My tank would have required way too much work to get it reasonably clean, so the $450 spent on a new one from our host was a hit but necessary.

Great looking car! Interior is nice and clean, dash is good, etc. I like to see 911s with Cookie Cutter wheels too! Congrats on the car and hope to see it running soon. Im sure many here can chime in on steps to get it back running properly.

Looks very stock - 2.7L with CIS. Stock CDI, stock air pump, stock coil, stock heating, stock air cleaner, stock A/C - I'd assume the 11 bland is also stock. They didn't all come with the 5 blade - they started using them sometime in 75. The 76 and 77 came with 5 blades.
