interior rearview mirror re-instal?

Hey All,

My interior rearview mirror seems to be slowly falling off and I am pretty sure once we get some heat from the sun beating on it it will end up in my lap. I haven't pulled it off completely yet because I want to have the proper supplies for the re-instal ready. It looks to me like the PO has used white double sided tape to put it up?

Here is the part# for the type of mirror it appears to be

914-731-014-11-M100

Can I just pick up a re-instal kit from my local auto supply? I couldn't find anything for this style here on pelican?

Any tips appreciated.

Cheers

You can go to your local auto parts store and buy the adhesive. I remounted mine last summer on a nice hot day. Cleaned the mount face on a wire wheel, prepped the contact area of the glass and mount with alcohol and then applied a drop or two of the adhesive. left it taped for 24 hours and I was good to go. Interesting note: I pulled the windshield this winter to refurb the dashpad and to swap out the windshield. I need to get the old mount off the old glass so I can reinstall on new glass. I tapped its edge with a small hammer thinking it would just pop off. Well it didn't and I didn't pursue it anymore at the time because I didn't want a mess on my hands if the old windshield broke. I'm sure if I get a putty knife behind it it will pop off. My point if that if you prep your surfaces good the repair adhesive works well.

Pelican sells the double-sided sticky pad for mounting that type of mirror.

I've had good luck cleaning both surfaces with alcohol and then using super glue. Once I mount the mirror I tape it in place with blue painters tape which I leave on overnight.

One important note; if you have the button style mount, make sure it is mounted right side up, the mirror bracket is tapered- don't ask me how I know, it's embarrassing.
