Sc 02 Sensor Question

After a spirited drive early this morning, I decided to take the 911 into the office today.

Driving home I noticed the following:

-at a stop sign/light, the 02 sensor on the dash would light up
-at speed the light would fade and eventually go off
-at the next stop sign/light the process would be repeated
-at no point did the alternator light come on
-upon returning home I turned the car off and restarted it and the light did not come back on

Is this an indication my 02 sensor is going? Everything I've read about them seems to indicate that when they go the light stays permanently on.

Car is an '81 SC with 91k miles and best I can tell from the PO records the 02 sensor was replaced in '97 which was about 20k miles ago.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

That really doesn't have anything to do with the condition of the O2 sensor. It is likely an electrical gremlin.

I would simply remove the bulb for the light, and forget about it.

Thanks for the suggestion Tyson.

My son and I just went out for a late evening drive and the light didn't come on at all.

Maybe it has something to do with the heat ???

I remember reading somewhere ( I can't remember where) that the O2 sensor light is driven by a mileage counter that can be reset by pushing a switch in a hole in the back of the gauge with a small probe (pin, paper clip, etc.). Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Yes,
I read that in a Hynes repair book. There is a reset button.
If you need the location let me know and I will look it up for you.
