Clutch cable - engine drop

99% ready to drop - can't for the life of me figure out how to get the clutch cable off. Spent some time reading and I looks like I need to loosen both nuts that trap the cable to the transmission (it looked to me like the mount trapped the front one from rotating). Is it as simple as that or do I need to disconnect the cable at the pedal?

the paragraph below is taken from the tech article on the main Pelican page on replacing clutch cable.

Underneath the car, the cable should be attached to the transmission throw-out arm. On the early 911s, the clutch cable was inserted into a hole in a flange on the transmission, and then attached to the throw-out arm. To remove the cable, simply unscrew the two nuts on the end of the cable, and pull it through the transmission flange. On the 1977-86 911s, the cable is hooked onto a large arm connected to the helper spring, and clamped onto a flange on the transmission. If you loosen up the nuts that clamp the cable to the transmission, then it should become loose and slide right off of the hook.

All the above plus you have to release the load on the omega spring to get-off the clutch cable. With the clutch positioning lever/arm detached, pry the clutch release lever/arm toward the front of the car and the omega spring wound release its tension.

Thanks, headed to the garage now. Looked to me like the forward nut was prevented from rotating by the mount..

I read both of those articles before and couldn't get my head wrapped around it.

Thanks - that was the trick - easy once you read the directions.

Got the engine out painlessly. Only hang up was not taking off the clutch levers while it was up - couldn't figure why I couldn't pull the tranny off. Did a bit of searching and found the circlip under the small lever, and once it was out everything just fell off. Transmission came off smooth as silk.

Engine is up on a stand, ready for a leak down test and then likely going to pull the heads for a suspected worn valve guide. Also going to clean up a few leaks.

Thanks for the help.
