There are many like it, but this one is mine...
After a long search that become rabid in the last few months, I finally got my hands on one of these things. A black '87 coupe, as it were, an hour from where I live (much to my surprise).
It is, quite simply, the most enjoyable car I've ever owned. I've always liked them, and always enjoyed the few miles I've put on other peoples examples, but boy. The sound, the smell, the balance, the way they look good dirty. If I had known, I'd have bought one years ago (even though I kind of tried). It's clear why more than one seller backed out... http://ensaster.com/pics/pelican/haunch.jpg I intend to drive it, maintain it in top form, and not worry about cosmetics, originality, and resale. Try and pry it from me anyway. |
Congras!

I hear ya brother~
"I intend to drive it, maintain it in top form, and not worry about cosmetics, originality, and resale. Try and pry it from me anyway."
Those are my intentions as well for mine....I didn't buy it for the next guy. |
Wohoo!
Sorry about the trips out to the car port to check on it...comes with the territory Swedet ride, more pics |
the more you enjoy the car and not worry about how it looks to other people, the bigger the smile will get on your face. others won't get it but who cares, drive it and fix the things that wear out. good job.

If memory serves me correct, your very cool title to this thread comes from the movie Full Metal Jacket, when the soldiers at boot camp are taught how to handle their rifles - and how there are many like it, but...
With the number of posts you already have, you're certainly no stranger. Any deets about the car's history, pip, more pics, plans to modify anything? |

100k miles, three previous owners. The last guy put less than 2,000 miles on it in five years, and as such, the only issues with the car are from sitting. I'm just gonna drive it and see what goes wrong in the next few thousand miles...If something breaks, I'll replace it with something better/stronger. I have a bone-stock E30 M3 that I love, but if anything touches the shiny red paint, I lose a month of my life. If anyone puts wet feet in it, I lose a week. God forbid it comes near a dog or a niece or someone who wanted to bring coffee into the car. I spent days and days getting MP3 playback in the stereo while maintaining a 100% stock look. My automotive philosophy has evolved a bit, and I decided that I didn't want my dream car to be a ball of stress that I was afraid to drive. As such, I decided before I bought the 911 that I simply wasn't going to buy anything that would further this psychosis. I wanted something I could drive, park outside, and enjoy, that would look good in an honest state of living. http://thumbs.newschoolers.com/index...&size=400x1000 With very rare (and heavily-modified) exceptions, old Porsches look good in every color and every state of being. I figured it was a great place to start. It will probably end up with a modest subwoofer and some kind of change to the wheels, but (hopefully) nothing obnoxious on either front. The only definite mod will be a pair of the ol' family stripes over the driver's side wheel well (always done with harmless vinyl tape). http://ensaster.com/pics/pelican/eyes.jpg |
Congrats!

Welcome to the Black Carrera Coup Club!

Btw, I'm still fending off the psychosis. I'm only losing a day or so if the car gets wet...

This is exactly how I've felt since buying my Cabriolet in mid-December. I tell everyone who asks that it is the best money I have ever spent on myself. The added bonus is meeting with other P-car guys and going on drives and bench-racing. This forum has saved me thousands of dollars too. I read the tech posts several times a day and have saved several good threads. I hate to pull into my driveway and put the 911 away. |
Congrats! i think your approach to your new ride is in the right spirit. Enjoy!

Congrats and good luck! Nice looking car.

Congrats!
I saved mine from neglect 19 years ago. It's far from perfect but it's mine and I drive it. My son and I had it out today for a 120 mile trip. There's no car I enjoy driving more. |
Black coupes rock!
Congrats! |
