Electronic ignition
Anyone done a conversion on their 911 MFI to electronic ignition. I was thinking about it, since I had done one to my '68 Charger in the early 70s.
I just wish all the wiring and black box could be all contained within the distributor, perhaps we will get to that point one day. Last edited by bcgreen; 04-01-2013 at 09:59 AM.. |

I wonder if there is such a thing as the Vertex Mag for Porsches?
That would be a self contained system...only one wire needed for control (kill switch) and reliable if the magnets are serviced yearly. They have been used on Harleys for decades...but they are only 2 cylinders. I am not sure if the mag would generate enough power to do 6 plugs. Bob

When I did a conversion on my mopar, you had a separate ignition control unit (black box) mounted on the firewall, a new distributor and wiring. That was the kit. Maybe I am not seeing the right Petronix, but the control unit is still separate.
What I am after is a electronic ignition, where everything is self contained within the distributor. So to the untrained eye, you would not know, or could not tell, that it was electronic ignition. There was no separate control unit. This is exactly the unit I used in the 70s Mopar Performance P3690426 Mopar Performance Electronic Ignition Conversion Kits Last edited by bcgreen; 04-01-2013 at 09:54 AM.. |
