Voltage Regulator question :: HELP wanted
 

Hello all.

got some additional questions on alternator/regulator.
they are fairly basic... but im still learning one at a time!

subject :: 74' 911

i have finally took the alternator out and will bring it to a shop where they will check and rebuild if needed. however, i still cannot figure out where the regulator is...or if it is integrated. there is a suspicious spot (left wall of the engine room with black cover - seems some electrical stuff are there...) where it seems a part is missing with loose wires hanging...

so...those bring out following questions.

first, where is the regulator located at?
second, if regulator is missing or in malfunction, can the alternator still function? - if it does not have the integrated regulator.
