Replaced CHTS sorta worked?

So my 85 Carrera was having issues starting and would die at idle. A lot of people suggested CHTS. I ordered one and finally got a weekend to go down to TX and replace it (I'm in the army stationed away from home). I started the car (it always starts and runs fine the first time if I haven't driven it in a few days) and let it idle. It started to idle hunt and bog down. I took off the connector for the CHTS and it began to run rough, I plugged in the new CHTS to the connector, with the sensor still in the package, not installed into the #3 cylinder. It idled like it should. I figured that was the problem and went ahead and popped the old one out and put the new one in. Started it up... well tried to. Same issue. Still really hard to start and will die at idle if you don't rev the engine at stop signs etc. Drives fine while you're on the open road. I'm thinking it's a bad connection on the end that goes to the DME.. because the old connector was broken off into the female end and the female end looks rough. Any way of testing the wire to the DME? Anyone know what part # that is? Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Also I put in the Steve Wong chip a week and a half before this issue started coming up and set the idle to 880 with the jumper in. Don't know if that could have anything to do with it.

probably not the SW chip. Disconnect your CHT sensor at the white connector, and place a bent paper clip as a jumper on the female connector to the CHT. Does this make a change to your running condition?
