Just cut the sleeves off, simple. Or you could grind out the exhaust ports, not simple.

Somebody sold you the wrong SSI's.

Yours are for the 3.2 Carrera engine; you need the thick-flange versions that do not protrude up into the exhaust port.

My suggestion would be to either return them for the proper ones, or trade them for the correct versions that fit properly.

thanks Steve Just got them new today:(,do you know if I am right on the 91-936 number? it is the thick flange flush .If they were cut off they would be too short up to the heads by the looks of these and the height measurement, there are no pictures anywhere I can on the different SSI heat exchangers all the same generic picture.

91-927 would have thick flange without the sleeve and without o2 sensor provisions.

They are for 75 California and early 76 models with thermal reactors that did not require sleeve. Looks like your engine has the thermal reactor replacement pipes.

Salesman may have sold you what was available, if you purchased them recently.

One of the last few US-made SSI arrived yesterday.......

Showbiz,

The SSI HE (91-915 SSI) is described in the packing list as:
Thick flange with O2 sensor socket, 911 (late 1976-77 Thermal Reactors cars), 911 SC (1980-83) Thick Flange Outside Taper.

BTW, what engine do you have? The SSI HE is a piece of art and worth the $$$ spent. Unfortunately they are not mine and belong to another Pelican member.

That is exactly what I have,91-915SSI my engine has 1973/7R cases fitted into a 77 911S is the only difference the raise sleeve?? the o2 sensor bung I could use a wide band for tunning. just would be a pain to return and trying to get the right ones. Could be another 3 months

This is not correct. The SSIs shown are thick flange 3.0 units, you can tell by the external chamfer on the protruding sleeves. The 3.2 units are chamfered internally to blend to the larger 3.2 port. There is only one other thick flange SSI offered and it has sleeves that do not protrude past the flange and that would be the correct one for your engine.

Some careful work with a grinder, etc. will give you exactly what you are supposed to have as all the thick flange SSIs have some sort of sleeve in them.

Hello,
I'm from germany and have the same problem.
`77 911S with thermal reactors/ thick flange no sleeves.
At a local shop 91-915SSI (thick flange with sleeves) are available at a good price, 91-936SSI (thick flange without sleeves) have to be ordered , which could take at least two weeks and they cost a bit more, too...
Is it possible to simply cut of the sleeves or are there any other differences?
@Showbiz, wondering which solution you´ve found?
Thanks
Julian

Once you cut off the sleeves you can no longer return them. Dansk SSI have fitment problems that the originals did not have. Get the correct type for the application then you can return them if there are any other issues.
