Interior color change anyone?
I have a maroon or red (whatever you want to call it) interior and Would like to go with with either a grey or tan instead. Anyone have any luck using interior vinyl dies to change the dash or door panel tops? I have a mint dash top and would like to keep it but have also considered using a later model dash top and converting to in dash A/C. Or how do you guys thing maroon interior will look with Dark Blue paint? I didn't think so...

Jeff my interior was originally tan. I changed all the panels and seats to black. The seats I bought used.
I haven't used any dyes so I can't help there. My dash is still tan and I am thinking of painting it ???? Shawn

They make vinyl dyes that you can spray like paint for your car. I used them once before but I didn't keep the car so I don't know how well it held up and it was almost the same color. I'm wondering how well the coverage would be on tan going on red. I guess black would be the way to do it.

I just re-dyed my front seats this past winter. I didn't change colors but I had to re-tint the dye myself to get an exact match (the color was can-can red).
Based on the recent experience of doing the dye work and using the results, my opinion is that the modern vinyl dyes, which are water-based, aren't as durable as the lacquer-based dyes. I'm seeing a lack of durability on high-wear areas like seat bolsters. Also, the water-based dye doesn't cover well since it is somewhat translucent. Therefore you could go from tan to red or black but not the other way. My advice would be to buy new seat covers and door panels if you want to go from red to tan. PB |

I'm going to get new seat covers and such, the only areas that are hard and expenisve to replace are the dash top and the upper doorpanel pieces.

The PO of my 78SC changed the interior color from blue to black using leather dye. I don't know when it was done but it did show some signs of fading and/or wear. I touched up some of the surfaces myself and it seems to work well but is not a permanent solution. I ended up just replacing most of the interior after a while anyways.
The best way is probably to find someone who is selling their interior in a color you want and put it in your car. Then sell yours to recoup the cost.

I think I'm going to paint the car black then so I don't have to deal with all the finding new dash and such. Unless somone out that has a black dash top they want to sell??
