Rear Bumper Shock Internals

Does anyone know what the internals are like on the rear bumper shocks? As part of my bumper modification, I'm going to drill a hole in it to let the oil drain, compress it a bit, then secure it with a screw. Not sure what the insides look like on the best placement for a hole and screw. I'm guessing toward the rear of the shock but not sure if there's something back there. Also, may not be able to get the the very rear of the right side so will have to improvise, don't feel like trying to take them out if I don't have to.

I drilled a hole in my shocks both the left on and right to let the oil out as both were frozen in position. The left shock was easy for removal but the right shock I loosed the side mounting bolts that hold the shock to the body. I placed a socket wrench on the back of the shock and had a friend use a large pry bar between the studs of the shock that bolts to the bumper and he spun the shock until loose. Not an easy task but it worked. The oil tank being located in area does make it difficult to remove the shock. I do plan on cutting open my old bumper shock to see what is in it. I will do this very carefully.

Whereabouts did you drill the hole?

I drilled the hole closer to where the shock mounts to the car.
