Anyone know what this is?

When I purchased my SC a couple years ago, it came in boxes. The entire interior and most of the body was completely disassembled because the PO had repainted the car, then found out he had to move. He had no time to reassemble and sell or ship the car. So I hauled away a truck load of parts and commenced assembling my first porsche. I did manage to get it all back together(maybe) but I was left with some extra parts that are not from Pcars - he basically threw all the parts he had in his garage in the car when I picked it up. However I think this part might go on my 911 somewhere, does anybody have a clue? It's about a foot long and metal. I was foraging through some boxes in the garage and found this again today.

Can't tell if there's a curve in it but it could be the brace in the front compartment which runs in front of the fresh air blower. If you take off the cardboard cover (laughingly referred to as a plenum I believe) there should be (on a Carrera at least) a brace near the centre.

Will see if I've got a pic to post.

Cheers

Found an image but I've got the brace off here. If you look at the tag at the top centre with a bolt in it, that's the top, then follow a line to the bottom of the compartment you can see (in red) the other end for the brace (at least that's my recollection).

I'm probably a mile off but if you haven't got one there try it!

Roy,

Thanks for the quick response. Finally got around to trying to figure out where it goes after two years. I had a suspicion that it went somewhere in the trunk. I see where it fits, but just one more question - what's its purpose? I doesn't seem to hold or support anything.

If it's what I think it's just a brace - probably stops some vibration at some frequency or something (you'd never think I was an engineer would you!)

It is definitely that brace, and it is quite important, as the whole ventilation blower is attached to the base of the windshield, and there is no support in front.
You can tell it is missing if you have water leaks into the trunk when washing the car. If there ar none yet, they will come.
