Replacing Power Window Switch

What is the easiest way to remove and replace the power window switches on the drivers door? My Bentley manual says to pry open the door panel and push the switch out from behind while squeezing two small tabs on the switch. The only thread on this site I could find said they just pried the with out of the panel with a small flat bladed screwdriver. So can someone tell me the which is the preferred way to remove a window switch without damaging the door panel? i would rather not mess with the door panel if its not necessary.

I have RS door panels, so your case may apply differently.
However I have been able to replace switches using a flatblade screwdriver. I use it to pry the switch out. Then, making sure the key is off, carefully remove the 5 connections on the back with pliers. Make sure they stay in the same positions so you can reconnect the new switch correctly. Then I put the new switch in, again using the pliers. Good luck!

The switches are pushed in from the outside of the door panel so GENTLY prying them out is the way they are removed. The critical step is making sure you keep track of the wire location on the switch. The wiring diagram can be located in the Bentley manual or here in one of the threads.

It's a common problem and just about every owner here has messed with the switches at one time or another.

Disconnect and isolate the battery negative terminal. Use a thin putty knife to pry the switch from it's steel bezel in the face of the door panel. Don't pull too hard as there might not be much wiring slack behind the window switch.

Swap the switch with new or working switch and reinsert into steel bezel.

This procedure worked well for me and should for you too. No need to remove the door panel.

Be carefull when removing switch not get the screwdriver or putty knife under the metal lip holding the switch in the door panel. You want to pop the switch out of the metal frame holding the switch. Our host sells two different priced switches and the higher priced switch is very high quality as I just installed two of them.
