84 3.2 Carrera Steering Wheel
Hi all wondering if someone can help with information. I recently acquired a 1984 Carrera 3.2 which is pretty well completely stock except for the steering wheel and radio.
I'm chasing a 3 spoke leather bound steering wheel for this model. From information someone posted on this forum which I haven't been able to validate anywhere else was the early model carrera of that era came with a fatter and dimensionally smaller outer rim than the earlier SC models which were 380mm and thinner is spec. Can anyone confirm this and provide a part number and the outer rim thickness and outer dimension size. The other difference I have seen is the the centre horn pad came with coloured badge instead of the embossed porsche badge in the black horn cover. Better still does anyone have one they want to sell? Appreciate any assistance. Adam |

Can't directly answer the question Alan, but I will sell you the black original wheel and adapter from my 1984 3.2. It's still installed, but I could snap a few pictures if you're interested.

early 3.2 had the SC int. with the 3 Spoke wheel. My original 84 wheel has 375mm. Radio 1984 should be Blaupunkt Atlanta SQR 22 (or Köln SQR 22 here in Germany) |

Thanks for that info can you advise me if the outer rim diameter is thicker than normal.
Also did they have a coloured crest in the centre of the horn pad |

Cant find a part number. No coloured crest. More or less 30mm thick.

The thicker rimmed 3 spoked wheel is from earlier years, likely up to '77, and not on all cars. Some say it was an option, but I have never seen the option code or reference.
3 spoked wheels all have the same diameter. |

I still have the window sticker for my '84. The original radio on mine was a Blaupunkt Monterrey, not Atlanta.
Mine also was equipped with the extended hub 3 spoke steering wheel. No colored crest. Does not appear to be an especially fat rim. ![]()

To be clear, the wheel pictured above was the *only* wheel available in '84. Only steering wheel option was the extended hub. No colored crest ever available on this wheel either

We all have an early, light 3.2
Good luck in finding correct radio! |

Can you expound on your light comment? I wasn't aware 84s where lighter than any other 915 trans'd 3.2s.

Option 565 is the Carrera fatty steering wheel. Option 18 is the SC sport wheel. Both have raised hub options. Dallas custom can re wrap a ordinary 3 spoke wheel to give the thick grip. The real option 565 wheels do crop up on the F/S section.
Do a search for fatty steering wheel. |

Is your car Australian delivered?
If it is, then radios were Dealer fitted..... Something like a Eurovox, Alpine etc, would be suitable. The horn pad was not colour crested. Cheers, Geoff.
