Eye Candy
Thought you guys might enjoy these, well I know that PWD won't, but anyways I took the '74 coupe to a fellow BBS member's wrench for a quick PPI, and here is what I saw. Holy Horsepower, Batman!!
First is owner's 914 V8 w/ 600hp Nascar(?) engine:

Bear with me, biggest picture-post ever for me,

When I pulled into this place, my head spun around like "The Exorcist", said exuse me and ran home to get the Canon Power Shot. Thought you guys(and girls) might enjoy. Lastly is car on rack, new 996tt, owner not satisfied w/ 190mph, so adding 100hp w/ different turbos, intercoolers, map ignition, exhaust, etc.
Wonder what the retail is on this part, Wayne? (stock exhaust from 996tt)

Joe, I didn't get to hear it, it was on rack w/ exhaust disconnected, but I'm sure it sounds NASTY! Apparently he races it at POC and SCCA events, (unlimited class?), it must meet sound requirements for tracks that have them.

Here are a couple more of the 914, he tried to explain what a "NASCAR" motor is to me, SBC w/ everything special from crank to custom heads, engine-management system, etc., he can set rev-limiter w/ laptop. Good for 8500rpm he told me. I tell you, L.A. is gearhead nirvana, I've lived here so long and seen a lot, but still sometimes you stumble upon a shop like this and just feel like a kid in a candy shop.
Detail of front radiator:

Wow, that 914 must be awsome---mufflers on the transaxle !!!!!
Perhaps the V8 was so quiet he had to do something about the gear/diff noise, just joking guys-- great pics.Denis |

Denis, I loved the pics...but heck, a V-8 powered 914 isn't anything new...I first witnessed one on the old Woody Creek Raceway (Really just a semi large go-kart track) the summer of '76. Owner/driver, "Big Don" K. of, where else, So Cal. Could he still have a shop???

I've got a better shot of 914 engine, (from under car), but it doesn't want to load for some reason. I'll try again:
Here is one of owner, (in background w/ red and black shirt), young guy, putting the "go faster" kit in the new turbo. He was busy, (another day at the office), but a nice guy once we got a chance to talk cars. His answer to all early 911 questions is, "put a 3.6 in it!" He just wants to go FAST! We're all just kids in men's bodies when it comes to these cars, eh? BTW, Paul, I just thought you wouldn't like the water-pumpers.

Denis, is he hooking up the exhaust in this pics? It looks like the ZL -1 headers are open. Pretty tricked out car, must go like a mother*****er.

On the turbo they had the whole exhaust out including the manifolds, (which I was surprised were kind of beautifully simple 3 into 1 pieces), in the photo the techs are installing one of the new/improved turbos, (one goes on each bank/side), then the rest of exhaust system goes back on. It, (996tt), didn't really look that hard to work on, at least the bottom of it. These guys were cool as cucumbers, just wrenching away at a comfortable pace. No rusty bolts on one of those, I guess.
![]() On the 914, the headers were on, as were the muffs, (as seen in picture), whatever pipe goes between them was missing. Not sure what they were doing to that one. BTW, that's a beefed 930 trans on that thing. 600HP!! 180mph on the long straights. Vacuum shorts out afterward!

Now for the big question: how do those owners smog their cars? I'm assuming that most of them wouldn't pass the visual test.

Denis,
STOP POSTING PICS! I am having trouble typing with all the drool over my keyboard. Not only are the cars beautiful, you can eat off of any surface shown in the pics... very nice shop. You are really correct... someone has way too much money and they need to donate a couple of these machines to the PP forum people! Joe
