Question Rear seats

I'm in the process of replacing my front and rear seats in my 76. The rear seats are from a 83 911. These seats have a elastic strap that is mounted on back of the seat at the bottom in the center. My old seats don't have this strap. I mounted one seat and when I tried to raise it up the tail of the seat slipped down the crack and wouldn't let the seat fold all the way back. Can someone tell me what the strap is used for and does it mount to something?

Not really an answer, just a data point. With my86 I have to lift that panel manually. I suspect if I have the elastic it's long since lost its elasticity. -J

On my 88 Targa, The elastic connects to the metal behind it with a trim screw. If I still have a photo when I disassembled the interior I will post it.

I am the one who sold Floyd those nice seat-backs so I feel I must take a guess and help sleuth this one out. That elastic strap... Hmmm, I don't ever remember it being connected to anything, but I think the engineering department prided themselves on making everything a bit better than average in these cars, so this strap may have been used to slow the seat-back as it folded down (or up) This was so it moved more mechanically and less quickly, so there was resistance during the swing and would 'snap' up in place. Just a guess. If you want it to 'perform' again I would suggest replacing it with new elastic strap as that one is surely expired by now.
