Cleaning Rubber Tail

Just wondering what people find works the best for cleaning up the rubber on the rear tail? I looked in the tech section and did a search but it was mostly talking about rubber trim and my tail seems to be more of a textured surface. I don't want to use anything that may damage it. I have some water spots i want to get rid of and bring back the black.

Thanks

I use Mothers Back to Black to restore the rubber. I keep applying it with a sponge until it won't dry. I used a whole bottle over a couple of weeks.

Use a cleaner specifically designed for rubber. Clean it until no more black comes off. Then apply the rubber conditioner/ protectant of your choice.

Lacquer thinner to get the oxidation off, then Back to Black.

Lacquer Thinner- I would be scared to use that?, does it dry out the rubber, or fade the pigment?

I've used back-to black also, great results, and it's not greasy so it doesn't tend to attract dust. It does take continuous work though, I use it 3-4 times/year

I use Meguiars Endurance Tire Gel on my rear wing/front spoiler....smile/ tires !
I apply it with a sponge then wipe off excess with a paper towel. I do not like the shinny look
wiping off after application looks best to me.

Have several of these tails over the years and can say that back-to-black works great. Don't use any solvents to clean the rubber as they can damage the rubber as it old and absorbes the chemicals and accelerates drying out. Vaseline will attract dust and dirt, won't hurt it but there are more effective products to use. Use the Vaseline on the Fuchs. BTDT back in my body shop days.

Like mentioned above, clean it gently first then apply the protection products.

Cheers

There is a rubber dye product that Griots used to sell. Worked great for me.

For maintenance I use LRV.

Test it on a small area, but Ive had great results with it. Ive never seen it fade or crack anything. Unless you get the faded old oxydized layer off, a polish will never last very long.
