Bilstein shock inserts

I have just replaced the inserts on my front shocks. Passenger's side was no problem. On the driver's side I cannot get the large nut that attaches to top of the strut and holds everything in place to go all the way home. It goes in just over half way and thats all she wrote. The original came off no problem and doesn't appear to be hitting anything when turned it just gets too tight to move any further. Has anyone else come across this? (I swear these cars will make you crazy)

It can be a PITA. The strut is probably being pushed down when you're jacking up the a-arm. I pull the strut up as far as possible start jacking then cock the metal cover to bind the strut then jack it up and have someone there to put the nut on as fast as you can.

it sounds like the threads may be damaged? I would put nut in a vise and run a thread chaser through it. also look at the strut and see if the threads look damaged; you can clean them with a thread file or die.

Thanks guys, both are good bits of advice. I shall give them a shot this weekend.
