Control arm crack inspection
Greetings Pelicans!
I've been lurking here for a while but it seems I have a question that couldn't be answered by searching. I'm replacing my control arm bushings and ball joints among other things on my 76 911S. I'm going to have my arms media blasted and powder coated while they're off. Should I get my control arms Magnafluxed while I have them down to bare metal? It looks like cracks are somewhat common and of course I'd much rather waste $100 on something that turned up nothing than crash because I was being cheap.

Well maybe the stub axles if you are concerned, but the control arms are soft mild steel so unless you can eyeball a crack I think they will be just fine.

I think the reason you couldn't find anything on cracked control arms is because they never fail. I shouldn't say never, but early 911's have been racing for 35 years and I've never heard of one failing. I would do a visual inspection.
