Front signals functions

This may be a stupid question but I am having an issue with the front signals on my 71T.

Each light has a small bulb for the side marker light and the large bulb for signal function.
when the left indicator is working a only the large bulb flashes but the right side both the large and small flash. When the indicator os left on and the car off the small bulbs stay on as it should.
Are the small bulbs supposed to flash or not.
Also when the signals are activated the gauge arrows in the cockpit both flash together,
Is this the cause of my problem?

Can anyone help with this?

You have a poor connection or dirty connection. I would check the sockets for all the bulbs for dirt etc. Also use a small hook to go down into the sockets and pull the brass contacts up a bit. The bulbs should fit snug in all sockets. The indicators in the car will do that when connections are bad.

Thanks, am in the process of this now but are the small bulbs supposed to work as side markers that flash when signaling a turn?

No. My 69 doesn't and that is the same assembly

That's a bad ground in the wiring or the bulb contacts, at least mine was. Indicators will both flash if a bulb is out on the side your using. If you turn on your left blinker and only the left indicator on the dash flashes your fine on the left but when both flash while using the right it means there is a bulb out, a bad ground or a bad bulb connection on the right side. If they both flash when using the left and right you have the same issues on both sides. When both indicators flash the exterior blinker will flash too fast also.

remove all bulbs & inspect them and the sockets; clean; replace with dielectric grease

next, move on to the grounds...

Did this just start happening or has this been an on going problem?
The reason i ask is that the wrong flasher relay will make both indicator lights flash simultaneously.

I have had the car for 25 or so years and I believe it s always been like this. I just painted tHe car and am now putting it back together and want to fix this.
I checked the bulbs and they all function but the small bulbs function differently.

Maybe it is the flasher, I will check that tonight.
