Filling Wiring Holes: Firewall/Trunk
Hello Peeps,
Happy Easter. spent the day yankin every wire i could reach ( 88 G50 Carerra) in preparation for installing an ISIS wiring system. Is incredible how much you can get out of theses things.. and this my second time thru it. see the pile. QUESTION.. is there a good strategy for closing all those holes up, including the big one for oil tanks? ( I am putting Peterson up front in smuggler box) .. There must be 30 small-medium holes... Can one just get some steel or aluminum rounds and epoxy and or use that 2 part weld stuff i used for the suspension?? i would like to plug them the smooth or sand down . trying for the extreme spartan clean singer look! i searched forums but could not find a thread ... all this will be in preparation for paint either a real spray job by a shop or rattle can by me .. unclear yet. i also ground off all thos friggin wire holders that fold over what a huge hassle and even when you grind them down, they are sharp as hell tell me how i know.. Thanks again!! Frank ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Shame you cut it all up, someone would have given you 350-450 in a second for that harness if you had taken it out in in the three pieces it is made up of.

Don't know about metal plugs...but the guys that do undercoating have various sizes of plastic plugs that they use to fill the holes they drill in the body to get the stuff sprayed inside.
I have seen them in almost every colour...and many sizes. Being plastic...and very flat...they are light and easy to install. Bob

if your going for the smoothed show car look then cutting out the areas and but welding in new metal is the anly true way to do it right .
there are places to get rubber plugs but finding every size you need to plug every hole will be a PITA . you could get some sheet metal and cut out little patches the use a two part panel /weld bond adhesive like SEM's #39537 . but doing things that way your just covering the hole and not smoothing them like you would be if you but weld a piece in . just covering a hole with a plug is not really doing any thing you will still know and see there is or was a hole there . owning a custom car shop over the years i would not even try and guess how many cars we have filled and smoothed fire walls on but they are a lot of work to do and do right . just take the panel were the oil tank goes you could cut little pieces and try and fill the 4 little holes and then cut another piece for the oil tank hole . the down side to trying to do it that way is have you ever cut a circle and have it come out round ? it's a PITA to do the other way is to cut out a big area and remove all the metal around the holes and weld in a filler panel that way . either way it's work ! |
