Got home ok...went and looked at a 911 too...

Flew in with no problems... been here a few days now.
Dad is doing ok, sometimes he gets around just fine then this tumor on his brain stem starts pushing on nerves and that's when it starts giving him fits.
He has lost his sence of taste; actually things just taste like "copper" to him. He has a slight "tick" in his left eye.
Sometimes, it's diziness, sometimes it's nausia.
Evidentally, he went on a 60 mile bike ride with some of his friends a week ago, while my mom was out of town.
She thinks that really took him over the top. When she got home he was lying in bed, trembling. She says he didn't even recognize her. That's when she called me and that's why we came home. He is starting to have worse and worse attacks by this thing.
I'm scared but.... that's life.

We had a good time today though... aside from tiling the kitchen floor, we stopped by a local-yokel car dealership to look at this red 911 coupe they had sitting on their lot after we returned the tile cutter.
Every town has one of these dealerships... you know... small-quazi honest- import dealerships....
Well I just thought it'd be fun to look.

That poor car...
It really could have been nice...
Red on black, '81 SC coupe...
Had 87K on the odo...
Those semi-dated 80's Recaro aftermarket seats...
A nice dashboard... A/C...a half decent repaint...

and... dum dum dummmmm ....a salvage title.
I told the lady that I knew that already.
She looked at me with a "how did you ..." I cut her off with a "The VIN plate is missing from this pillar and look here in the trunk.... there's supposed to be a number stamped right there and someone has grinded it off".

I think she thought I was Columbo or something... anyway, it was a shame.

On the door pillar there was a sticker from the Florida State DMV with a new VIN and bar code on it.
never seen that before.
She said it was on consignment and that the owner was asking $11K for it.
I laughed and said it was worth about only $5 to $6K to anyone with half a brain.

But it sure got my dad talking about how much he has always admired "Porches" the rest of the way home.

All in all.... a good day.

Oh, and yes Erin said "yes".
She better after I handed her that $2500 ring.

Cheers, I hope everyone is having a blast up in Canada.

Sure wish I could be with you guys.

Lee,

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. Keep your chin up and be strong for your Mother. But, CONGRATULATIONS on the big Q!

Are you going to have a stretch limo for the wedding??

Same here Leland, Congrats and sorry about Dad. Enjoy this time with him, I'm sure he is enjoying you. So this girl must be the cute one whose picture you posted a while back? Good work, fearless leader.

Married? Married? Damn man, you better get that SC up and running before the wedding or there will be no money for it afterwards! And say hi to your dad for me. I only know him through you and the pics you have of him, but say hi anyway.

I agree w/ Planter91C2! Heck, my car rarely sees daylight because I have 2 kids under the age of three. It comes out for about an hour every other week......but can't imagine not having it.

There's no such thing as coasting through life, is there Leland? It's mainly "ups" and "downs". I wouldn't want it any other way. Enjoy the ups to the fullest; work through the downs--you'll always come through them. Live in the moment and try not to look ahead too far. I'm sure your Dad cherishes every moment you spend with him. I don't know what his outlook on life was before he faced this challenge, but being confronted with one's own mortality can change a person. Enjoy him. Enjoy your fiance. Enjoy life. I'll say a prayer for you all. Lance.

Big congrats on the engagement.

Lee,
You can't imagine how sorry we all are that you aren't able to come.....sorry, but also *very* sympathetic.
This weekend, I'm sure we will have a "blast". At the same time, our fun can't but help being a bit tempered by news of your dad's illness.
Please tell your dad that he's in our most sincere thoughts.

Lee? Once again, you show wisdom beyond your years. If you have trouble hugging your dad? Hug your mom, she needs one! To you & Erin? Hugs from Orygun. When you show up here? You've been promised a drive in a 2.4 S. I fully intend to deliver.

Good luck Lee, my dads cancer is starting to get worse after a few months of good times. He lives 1200 miles away too so its tuff to pick when to go see him (and my mom of course) First I was happy he got to see his only grandchild (she's 4 1/2 months old), now I hope he stays around long enough for her to know him and that is asking a whole lot
