SF Bay Area=Autopia

Just got back from a week-long trip (our first) to San Francisco and we loved it. We stayed downtown and rented a yanktank MonteCarlo for the side trips to Carmel (via Sears Point), Napa (via Laguna Seca) and my favorite drive, Muir Woods/Stinson Beach.
Perfect Porsche weather and roads and I'll admit a bit of jealousy, despite enjoying 12 month P-car jollies here in the South. Drivers in the Bay Area are far more courteous than here in central FL, which was another pleasant surprise.
It was really a delight to see so many Porsche drivers enjoying their machines, from 356s to 996s, and ESPECIALLY the SC guys.
Makes me want to ship mine out and get lost for a couple of weeks.....

That Bay Area is beautiful little chunk of earth, isn't it? Sounds like you hit all the good spots. Glad you enjoyed it! It does seem like Marin and Napa were laid-out with Porsches in mind.

If you drove to stinson beach or muir woods, you drove right by my house. Those roads are awesome to drive.

you have the track locals all bassackward, carmel (montrey) is laguna seca, or should i say mazda raceway park @ laguna seca, and napa (actually sonoma) is the home of sears point. glad you enjoyed our area, we are also glad it was just a visit, we have no more room for anybody else. just kidding, but i was born and raised here and see no reason to leave. i drive 1/2hr to the coast, 20 minutes to twisting roads, an hour with my jetski to lakes and 3 hours to tahoe.

you should have been here a few weeks ago, you may have been right at home up in sonoma (sears point). you see it was as southernly as we get with all the good ol' boys from neckcar, errrr nascar here for the save mart something or other there. your yanktank (nice tag by the way) would have been right at home!

What Bay area was it you visited? Doesn't sound like the one I live in.

The majority of SF Bay Area drivers are "female dogs".

Hey, you're definitely right about the race track mix-up--sorry! I could attribute it to jet lag, but truth is, I just wasn't paying attention. My wife's used to it.
Too bad about all this race track (and sports stadium) naming for corporate buck$. Probably just a matter of time until our beloved Sebring becomes Mobil1/Exxon/NyQuil/Viagra Speedway.
As for the courtesy of drivers, I suppose it's a relative thing. In general, people in SF are younger and better drivers with a sense of what has to be done (to get somewhere) than the average Tampa Bay driver. And don't even get me started about Orlando ("Look kids, it's Mickey!"), or South Florida ("Don't shoot! I'm a tourist!"), or......

About driving in Florida...Dennis Miller did a bit where he said, (paraphrase) "The State Flag should be a steering wheel with a pair of hands reaching up - the motto is 'drive slow, sit low' "
