Cab wind noise
After reading many threads about how to adjust the top of my '86 (manual) Cab and watching a U-Tube video about the restoration of a '71 Targa (in Germany) I finally got rid of the excessive wind noise. Here is what I had to work with:
1) Especially on windy days driving on the highway the noise was so loud that I could not talk on the phone (using my blue-tooth headset) or listen to the radio. 2) The two manual levers to lock the top down were very easy to turn and after the first one was locked the second rotated almost without any resistant. 3) After the top was locked down I was able to push on the front of the top by the windshield and the top would move down about 1/16" compressing the seal. Of course it would spring back after I released the pressure. 4) The two guide pins engaging into the windshield frame are turned to the shortest position. 5) The leading edge of the top and the seal was sitting above the surface of the windshield ![]() ![]() I read in one thread to adjust the two guide pins and make them longer to get more positive pressure on the two levers to lock the top, but in my opinion that would only raise the top even higher above the edge of the windshield and increase the noise. Reading more threads and manuals on how to adjust the top I could not find a solution. However, watching a U-Tube video about a restoration of a '71 Targa in Germany I noticed the mechanic who restored the targa top used a rubber mullet to bend down the front edge of the top to make it sit flush with the leading edge of the windshield. I had to think hard about hitting my car with a rubber mullet, but two nights ago out it came and the bangign started. I loosend the phillips head screws (visible in the picture of the guide pins) and just held the top up about a foot over the windshield supporting it with my left hand and started banging away. After massaging the front edge of the top and keep checking the fit it looks now like this: ![]() ![]() The two locking levers have a very positive feel without feeling too tight. The seal of the top is now sitting flush or slightly below the windshield frame. I drove the car yesterday on a very windy day with winds from the North West gusting at 25 MPH. I went on a highway driving into the wind and took it quickly up to 100 MPH. So at a combined wind speed of up to 125 MPH my radio was adjusted to the same volume I was listening when driving at 45 MPH and I could still comfortable listen to the radio. What a difference this made. Now the legal disclaimer. This worked on my car and did not cause any damage. It does not mean it will work on yours or will not damage your car if you hit it too hard or at a wrong place. I will most likely be at Hershey if anyone wants to look at how the top fits the windshield now.

Your weather strip between the convertible and the frame looks better than mine. On my car, the wind noise comes the most from the windshiel's seal, not the convertiblle. I noticed that after upgrading from 911 to 993 windshield/seal.
