Listen to your car!

A week ago Tuesday I heard a new sound from the front of the car. It was a "clunk" that was absulutely new. I did not drive the car the rest of the week.

The weekend rolls around and I decide to investigate. Up on jackstands I find the a-arm is little suspicious. I pull it out and this is what I find.

(sorry I could not insert picts correctly)
Notice that the rear a-arm collar has lost its way. The sleeve that the mounting bolt slides through, and ties into the steering crossmember, had sheared its welds. Three of four corners were broken loose. Luckily I had another piece from the SC donor car for my ST project. The car is all fixed.

I just wanted to remind everyone to pay attention to strange noises - especially when you drive a 31 year old car.

Crikey!?!
what caused that to occur - fatigue or a severe bump?
Gonna check mine now.
Thanks Jamie.

Hey Jamie, glad you here that you found / fixed this before it really became serious.

Yup. I have a rearend clunk that has me thinking time to weld new braces for the sway bar. I am about to strip the suspension and redo the CVs as well so we'll see if I can rival your pics for frightening damage!

Jamie--

Lucky that didn't happen when we were driving the maximum legal speed a few weeks ago. I think I'll do an inspection this weekend.
