Rear ended!

Stop a little longer at a stop sign for a jogger to cross and the next thing you know is WHAM! 2001 Volvo in my rear end. A little 20 year old girl driving her Dad's girlfriend's car decided she was in a hurry. Plenty of insurance, which is good.

You can tell the rear bumper was pushed in under the body panel about 4 inches since the paint is scraped off the bumber. Tweeked the rear end of the car.body of the car, pushing the left rear body panel down. Looking at the rear deck lid the left side of the body is pushed to the left and down about 1/4/ inch. The right is also pushed down and to the left.

The funny thing is we exchanged info and I gave her my card. BTW, my card says Attorney at Law. She looked down at it and said, " I guess I really did hit the wrong person!"

So much for an accident free, pampered, 24 year old car that traveled 190K miles without an incident.

Anyone know a really good body/paint shop and mechanic in Orange County, California? I would like to ge tthis thing done as soon as possible.

And you didn't ask her out? Man are you dense. That's the oldest trick in the book when a girl is looking for a wealthy older man--run into him and act all helpless and bashful. You blew it!

Sorry Paul to hear about your incident. I too have a similar situation going on with my cabriolet having been rear ended - by a dumbass who let his SUV roll away because he wanted to get into a street fight with some loosers behind him. Most insurance companies are super tight these days and don't want to pay what it take to fix these cars to 100%. I hope you don't end up with this problem as I am having. The insurance company of the person who rear ended me is a small assigned risk company who only wants to pay 60 cents on the dollar for what it takes to repair it because they think the labor should only be $800 at $28 dollars an hour. The reality is, with the average of 5 estimates I got, the labor is really like close to $3000 with almost all good body shops these days charging between $38 to $45/hour. Therefore, none of the body shops I went to want to fix my car.

Researching shops, I think one of the best repair facilities in the southern California area for Porsches is in Orange County. Quality Craft Auto Body in Huntington Beach to be exact. It'll be where I take my car eventually when this thing gets all settled, even though I live in Los Angeles. Rob, the owner there is really knowledgable and practically specializes in the 911s, and since his operation is fairly small and limited to himself and a few assistants, you most likely will get him doing much of the metal work on the car rather than some $9/hour laborer you get at larger facilities. They also get Andial's highest and only recommendation. Good luck!

Let the mods begin. After my accident, I realized I was just going to have fun with my car and change as much as I could. Before that I was really careful. It made me ill to think of the bondo under the paint after that. And with a rear end collision, you can't swap out parts (like the back fenders are a single unit welded to the frame which cannot practically be replaced).
then you'll get all glass bumpers and go nuts with it. Have fun. Sorry to hear it.

Oh Jeez,

I'm really sorry to hear this, Paul! My heart sank when I saw this topic! I have just been through a similar fate, only with front end damage also. Be thankful you weren't pushed into the car in front, like I was!

The girl who hit me, (why are they all girls?) has claimed and her insurance company has settled with me (".. the cheque is in the mail, sir...") so, work started on my car early this week. I'll post some pics, but make sure that the car is thoroughly checked out. They're pretty hardy cars, but there could be unseen damage.

Paul: if the car was previously accident free, don't overlook the diminution in value claim after the repairs are done. 10 to 20% value loss is ballpark for the car now that it has a negative history.
regards,
jlex.

Paul - Sorry to hear of this! Ouch.

Years and Years ago I used Autobahn Auto Body. Otherwise, I suggest contacting Hergersheimers and maybe Andial for some referrals. There is a high-end Paint Shop in Costa Mesa called Senik Paint (they mixed my touch up paint), they also might have good recommendations. Let me know if I can do anything.

Don

A very, very good shop to take the car to for paint and body is Deshler's in Orange. Experts at frame repair, he's not cheap but the best. Tim is very familiar with Porsche's and knows what you expect. Highly recommended by PCA members and shops around here.

Don't, i repeat, don't go near Autobahn on Baker street in Costa Mesa. They are not honest and the work they do is shoddy at best. When my car was returned to me i found so many missing or loose nuts and bolts i spent a whole day just going over everything they touched . Also when i got the car back everything including the inside was covered with a fine layer of body shop dust. The co you mentioned in hunt bch uses Andial to reasemble the cars that are being completely redone and Andial recomends them. Good luck and sorry to hear this happened.

Compared to this, my bad day in the office seems almost tolerable now.

Sorry to hear about this but glad you and the car will drive together again.
