Boxster help from the 911 gurus!

SO I recently tried to drive a 97 Boxster

My brother purchsed this Boxster new in 97. HE drove it for about a year and put about 8000 miles on it. The car has now been sitting for the last 15 years in storage!! We have cleaned it up and replaced all the fluids, battery, tires etc. But when I drive it the clutch seems to be slipping at first then it fully engages and all is good. IS this normal on a boxster? Or is there something wrong with the clutch?

I start off then shift into higher gears, I can see on the tach and hear the engine rev a little then it will fully engage.....seems wrong to me.

Should be a firm engagement. From your description I agree that it appears to be a slipping clutch. Might be glazing on the clutch disk or still have a layer of rust on the flywheel from sitting for 15 years.

Kurt, the brake rotors had rusted something awful, so I am sure the clutch is probably in the same condition. Do you think we should just drive it for awhil to see if it will wear off or???

Driving a while to clean off the rust might work, but my experience is that a rusty surface (clutch or brake rotor) is abrasive and, therefore, can grab abruptly, rather than slip. YMMV Others might have had different experiences, but that's what I have seen.
