Sump screen removal

Is there a trick to removing the sump screen on a '76 911? I don't want to force anything.
I also notice there is only one gasket between the plate and the bottom of the engine case.

The screen should just walk off of the studs. Gently pry around the circumference of the screen to separate it from the bottom of the case.

The order of things should be-

Bottom of case, gasket, screen, gasket, sump plate.

I am thinking you do not have the "bowler" screen sump type? With the asymmetrical crowning introduced to prevent zero pickup in scavange (hey? does that oil gauge read ZERO?) from the crankcase sump plate? Just asking to remind you to note direction of screen and reinstall same way.

This screen is inside the crankcase and its like a bowl, where the mesh/screen hangs down. I am not sure, but it might have a lip that allows the screen to hang there. My order is: bottom of case, gasket and sump plate
I can pm you a photo.

I can't move the screen hardly at all. At this point since I cannot remove it, I am not worried about it. I am going to wait and hear what you guys have to say, maybe its not a removable type. I can tell you this, it didn't come with a drain plug, which makes sense, since Germany didn't want its Porsche customers changing oil.

This might help. The sump plate is different, but you'll get the concept.
Oil Sump plate w/o drain Plug. Why?

The screen should have a thin lip that might be pretty stuck to the engine case if it hasn't been off in awhile.

Mine is different. Sump plate - gasket - crankcase.
The screen hangs down from within the crankcase, like a strainer from your kitchen.

I haven't received a pm from you yet. I think you should consider posting a pic for everybody to see. Many opinions are better than one

Before I get home and take a picture, I came up with this idea that maybe the screen is attached to the oil pump as in this photo. This is not a Porsche engine, but this might possibly be the way my engine was config. before the 3.0 came out.

Here is the pic I was PM'd. I apologize if it ends up upside-down, as I'm posting with my iPad...

I have never seen this style of screen on a 911. Hopefully someone is familiar with it!

Am I seeing this right? Is that sump screen integral to the oil scavenge itself? That would certainly explain why you cannot pull it out!

It appears I have an updated pump where the screen is attached to the pickup tube.

Would probably also explain the single gasket between the sump plate and the crankcase face. That makes sense. A careful cross-wise wipe with a non-fibrous (nothing with threading - a paper towel would be best) would encourage any bits to fall away from the engine and to the floor/paper towel.

I have some blue gasket sealant that I haven't used in years, is this stuff, still the ideal product to use?

Pelican list two gaskets: 930-101-391-01-M17 and APBZ-SSP. One is $3.75 vs $17.50, so what's the difference other than silicone?

Don't use any sealant. The cheap gasket should work just fine. I have been using the cheapies for years with no problems. I install them dry.
