84 911 fuel filler neck crack?
hey guys could this be one of the causes for my gasoline smell when i park my car? heres a picture of under my drivers front wheel where the gas filler neck is

Yes that is the correct piece. It can partially be responsible for the gas smell. It is there to catch water or any fuel spilled while filling the tank and direct it by way of a drain tube away from the body of the car. Most likely the fuel smell is due to old lines in the evaporative emissions system. Either one has come loose somewhere, or the lines are old and cracking allowing fumes to escape. There is an expansion tank in the drivers fender well and under the dash cowl. The hoses then run in the trunk from the gas tank to the filler neck and expansion tanks, and by way of the center tunnel to the carbon cannister in the engine compartment. Check all the hoses and fittings and replace as needed.

thanks ed, i ordered the part and will be looking for old hoses that need to be replaced. i noticed that the fuel smell is strongest on the interior of the car after i drive it and leave it parked for a few minutes |
