Opinions on wheel choice

I am looking for opinions on a wheel choice.

I realize opinions vary but I do respect the opinions of all the Porsche owners on this forum. I have seen some amazing cars here.

I am having difficulty deciding on my own because in the year I have owned my car, my tastes have changed. Of course that is due to this forum.

Anyway, I am thinking about buying new wheels for my car. It currently has 17" Twists on it but I am interested in aftermarket Fuchs. I have my eye on the black center Fuchs and the RSR finish Fuchs. The following pictures will be quicker than me explaining further. First picture is my car with the twists, the second two are what I am thinking about. Should I stay with what I got or should I pull the trigger on new wheels? If so, which one do you like the best on a black 83 SC? Thanks for your input!

my car:

I think the RSR style wheels would look great.

Of those choices, RSR. I am in the minority when I say this, but the fuchs, although they are awesome, they are overdone. They are the torque thrusts of the Porsche world. All that matters is what you like... Even if it is whatever everyone else has and likes...

I just noticed your car has 964 bumpers/skirts, I think a modern wheel would look better.

I agree about the more modern wheels with the 964-type bumpers.

My current favorite are the Fikse FM/5's. Not cheap, but they capture a more modern look and a bit of the look of Ruf wheels. The 7.5 & 9 inch width combination should be about right for your car.

Certainly on a black car, one also can't go wrong with black center 17" Fuchs repros (like the ones from our sponsor). But they look better on '89 & earlier looking cars.

I think the 964 and newer look better with 17 or 18 inch wheels that are newer styles than the fuchs are. Look at Kinesis or HRE or BBS or Fikse or similar and you may find the newer styles are worth considering. Take a look on the turbo forum and do a search on the "another wheel thread" and you will see several shots of various wheels on 930's - it may help you decide.

I'll reply with a picture. I have the polished RSR look, 7/8x16 FUCHS. Of the three pics you posted, I like the RSR 17s best.

HAHA great quote! But I think they are more like the 'Cragars' of the Porsche world, and like an early Camaro or Mustang with chrome Cragars it just plain works in my book.

My vote is for the 17" RSR Fuchs replica's BTW.

I like Fuchs a lot but I agree here. I like seeing Cookie Cutters, Phone Dials, Cups and different Porsche wheels on the 911 rather than Fuchs over and over.

The rsr would look nice for a year or two.

The black ones will always look good.

The Torq Thrust/Cragar mag wheel analogy stated above is not valid in that Fuchs are the OEM wheel. How can the OEM wheel be "overdone"?
