Luggage Deposit - Where to buy and for how much?
Hi all,
Since I never use my rear seats, I've been thinking about removing them and either putting in some RS Carpet or replacing them with a Luggage Deposit. I've seen the Appbiz parcel shelf, but $750 is quite a bit more than I would like to spend. Are there any other sources for reproduction luggage deposits? If not, how much do used ones typically fetch? I see some listings from a few years ago where the sellers were asking $450-$550. Edit: I'd also love to see pictures of any of your rear seat alternatives. Thanks for the advice,

What is a "Luggage Deposit"? Do you mean the rear shelf that replaces the rear seats?
If so, you always build your own for about $40 worth of high grade plywood. It won't be very light but you can trim it with vinyl and carpet. Or find an old one froma model that had them (964 RS?) - search for various pics & threads. |

You can see what it looks like if you follow the link to appbiz in my original post. My understanding is that the official Porsche name for the option was Luggage Deposit, while some people call it the Parcel Shelf.
I know that I could make my own without much difficulty (there's even a thread where someone did it), but I'd like it to look original. If I had patterns for the original wood (fiberboard?) I could do it. I've seen them for both longhoods and for 964 RS's, but not for the mid-years. Can anyone confirm or deny their existence? Is the 964 rear seat area the same size as earlier cars? Thanks again...

I bought a used RSAmerica "rear seat delete" and modified it slightly (rear seat belt mounting extension and extend the carpetted tunnel opening) for my '70 tub. You should be able to do the same for your Carrera.

Thanks for the picture. If I'm understanding you correctly, yours came with the side pieces that the seatbelt passes through?

No. I am referring to the rear seat belt mounting holes that are on each side of the rear seat "bucket". The RSAmerica "rear seat delete" has black metal bars that line up with these seat belt holes to attached the rear seat delete to the car's interior. These seat belt holes are positioned farther back on our early tubs. As such, an extension needs to be used to line up the "rear seat delete" mounting posts to the seat belt hole in the tub.
Here's a pic of the black "rear seat delete"bars and the bronze colored "extension" that I fabricated installed in my tub's rear seat. One on each side of the "rear seat delete" secure it to the interior.

Sergio,
I got your PM. Thanks for the all the info and pictures. I think I like the later version as well. I probably will post a WTB for one when I decide what direction to go with my interior. RWebb: What I meant was that I assume the original luggage deposits were some sort of flimsy fiberboard or plywood.

Original ones were made of soft wood, looked like pine, not plywood or fiberboard. I was pretty surprised, The one we bought had some pretty bad warping when we got it. (I paid a fortune for it) Ours are constructed of plastic, Lighter and more stable.

More pics Delet box
Here are some more pics of the rear seat delete box we make
![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see we are now using a plastic hinge for the doors, the metal ones rattled and irritated me. Hardest part of this project was finding the opener buttons for the doors. The original box did not have the lips on the opener buttons, we added them for convience, but if you want the original look they are removable. Bob |
