71' 911T fuel line/carbs problems

I have a 71' 911t that I bought as a project out of someones back yard. After much welding and wrenching I have the car going back together but it seems that as things went wrong in the past, they where bypassed rather tahn fixed. I need to know how/where the return fuel line connects at the carbs(Zenith TIN40)- it has been blocked with bolts and lft to hang at the fuel pump. In addition, The Left side carbs have a manifold made of rubber hose coming from the base-this has been blocked with bolts and electrical tape. Does anyone have any info on this?

Unhappy

If anyone can supply picts of the engine at the carbs, I can probably see the lines in question. It would have to be w/air filter unit off. Please..........

The blocked off rubber lines sound like your car was once equipped with a sportomatic gearbox. Those hoses supply vaccum to a clutch activating mechanism.

You sould be able to see these same hoses in my engine bay. Sorry I can't help you with Zenith carbs, but fuel lines shouldn't be too different from Weber

Cheers

Thank you for the Pict. I really beleive the gear box is original, but I Do question whether that set of carbs/manifold is. I can't see where the fuel return line is in your picture. Do you know? More impotantly, do I need it?

The Webers do not have a fuel return line. I think that the Zenith carbs were of an "overflow" design, and require fuel flow to operate correctly.
Sadly, there is not a lot of information available on the NON Weber carb models. Some of the Guru's (JW, Early S man, etc.). can be more helpful, I am sure.

Good Luck hope you are on the road soon;

The return lines on my '71 T were also not connected when I bought my car. I recently converted to a CIS equipped car and found that the return line at the tank was never installed. My guess is that the line was installed so that the chassis could be equipped as a MFI or carbureted car.

Not having a fuel return line never seemed to hurt the Zenith carbs. They spit and popped anyway.
