Post Dangers of too much oil

What is the danger of putting too much oil in your 911? I searched the BBS but couldn't find a good answer.

Main danger would be a burnt to a crisp car w/ fire-extinguisher chemical dust all over it. Don't do it!

Patronus,

There are a number of things that can happen from fairly simple to semi-extreme. You can foul your plugs, saturate your cylinders and smoke like the dickens. You can short out you air flow meter (if you have one) you can blow seals, cause a fire if too much makes it to the heat exchangers and I'm sure there may be more. If you've just overfilled and haven't sucked any into the engine it can be fairly simple to correct. Just drain some out or suck some back out using a vacuum pump or similar device.

Seems to me you could wind up with a lot of it in your air filter box from the crank case breather.
