Question Show me your 3.2 "cup" style air box / tips and tricks?

I did a search and didn't find too many images of the "cup" airbox mod, where you cut away the snorkel.

Long story short -- I'm planning to do this mod tonight. I bought the fabspeed cup airbox and it is being returned tomorrow -- could not get it to fit and it looks and feels quite flimsy and fragile, especially for what I paid. The problem is, I got a tune from Steve Wong that is optimized for the cup airbox, and supposedly the combo (tune / airbox) is good for 8+ horsepower...thus, I need to have the cup style airbox.

So...any pics of others that have done this mod, and any tips or tricks in making it? My plan is to map out the cutout with masking tape, then follow it carefully with a dremel, and clean up with some sandpaper.

TIA
Rich

Cutting the airbox cover means loosing 6.5 hp approximatively.

Just for info.

Not according to Steve W's dyno results, but I really don't want to start that debate...just looking for some good pics and tips.

Here's a link to some ideas and photos of how I trimmed an extra lid I purchased. I have a hard time cutting into my good parts so I usually pick up a part used and cut that to preserve my original parts.

I cut around the outside of the tape shown. Flip the lid 180* and install.

Some people mention an audible whistle at part throttle tip in once the lid is opened up. I had the whistle as well until I sealed up all my vacuum leaks. -J

I bought mine from another Pelican for I think $25. My main reason was I hated getting the clips on and off. I haven't noticed anymore noise, but it had been 5 years since I hear it run.
